Cracksman new Arc favourite after Enable injury scare

Defending Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe champion Enable has suffered an injury in training, but she is expected to be fit to make a defence of the title.

The John Gosden trained superstar won six of her seven starts in 2017 including five consecutive Group One races.

She has been pencilled in make her reappearance in the Coronation Cup at Epsom on June 1., but that is now off.

“Enable has met with a setback in training. She has some filling in her knee which is being fully investigated,” Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, said in a statement.

“The advice that we have is, that given reasonable circumstances, she should be ready to run in August as a preparation for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.”

A clash with brilliant stablemate Cracksman is still on, but now race fans will have to wait until the Arc in October – rather than at the King George at Ascot in July.

Now because of the injury, Bookmakers have reacted by easing Enable to 7/2 for the Arc and making Cracksman the 3/1 favourite.

Aoife Heffron, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented: “Enable’s injury setback has cleared the path for Cracksman to dominate the Arc and King George VI betting.

“The son of Frankel had punters already marking their cards for the Arc after his impressive Prix Ganay win at Longchamp which saw him shorten to 3/1 from 4/1, but with Enable’s Arc return currently up in the air, punters have latched onto John Gosden’s 4-year-old colt, making him the 9/4 favourite.”
