Crowley insists he wants title again

Champion jockey Jim Crowley insists that he will be battling for his title again this coming season.

Crowley won his first British flat champion jockeys’ title last year holding off defending champion Silvestre de Sousa.

He has since taken on a new role as the retained jockey of Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, which may limit his time elsewhere – but despite this Crowley thinks he can challenge again.

However, the bookmakers think different and you can get 7/1 on Crowley with WilliamHill, who make De Souza favourite at 6/4 and Paul Hanagan second favourite at 2/1.

Joe Crilly of WilliamHill told TheGamblingTimes.com: “It is a small market, especially at the moment but what little money we have seen has been for De Sousa.”

Challenge

Crowley though, insists he can mount another challenge and said: “I am definitely going to give it a go. This time last year I wasn’t in the position I am now.

“Last year I wasn’t even thinking about the championship until Glorious Goodwood. I have a great agent in Tony Hind and I am going to try and ride as many winners as I can.

“If I’m still in with a shot when Goodwood comes around, we’ll give it a go.”

Crowley rode 148 winners last season to be De Sousa by some 16 winners.
