Shocks galore at the Palace?

It’s been a Masters of shocks, epitomised by last night’s departure of John Higgins to Ali Carter in the second quarter-final.

QF action continues today, with Stephen Maguire taking on David Gilbert at 1pm, and Kyren Wilson facing Stuart Bingham in the evening tie at 7pm. Could we see another surprise result or two?

Current Outright betting – Shaun Murphy 13/8, Ali Carter 9/2, Kyren Wilson 5/1, Stuart Bingham 6/1, David Gilbert 6/1, Stephen Maguire 8/1.

Race for the jockey’s championship

The National Hunt jockey’s championship is the most exciting for years, as title-holder Richard ‘Dickie’ Johnson and northern powerhouse Brian Hughes battle it out for the coveted spot at the top of the pile.

Johnson is at Chepstow today for two rides – Port of Mars in the 2.15 for Olly Murphy, and Just a Thought for Rebecca Curtis in the 3.20. Both are well-fancied.

Hughes is in action at Musselburgh, where he has five – again, all of which have live chances.

The PJA website has Dickie two clear of his rival this morning, 109 playing 107, with nearest pursuers Sam Twiston-Davies and Harry Skelton at a respectable distance (84 and 81 respectively).

As it stands, Johnson is 8/11 at Betfred to pick up the crown, with Hughes an EVS shot.
