David Haye odds on to beat Jimi Manuwa

With all the talk of Floyd Mayweather taking on Conor McGrgeor, an all British clash could see the world’s of Boxing and MMA come together first with David Haye and Jimi Manuwa in talks over a possible fight.

Haye is recovering from his defeat to Tony Bellew, which saw him rupture his Achilles, but he is already looking to the future and has responded to calls from Manuwa to take him on.

Londoner Manuwa celebrated his latest victory at the O2 Arena on Saturday by confirming he would love to take on his fellow Brit.

Manuwa is one of the highest ranked light heavyweights in the UFC, but he is ready to switch to the square circle for a clash with Haye.

And Haye has already confirmed that he would be up for the clash, and in a recent Q&A on social media was asked if he would take on Manuwa and he said: “The answer is a resounding yes.

“I was very impressed with his quick knock out the other night at the O2 Arena.

“If any of the mixed martial artists can convert over to be a successful boxer he has definitely got the body shape and style to do so.

“We have heard from Manuwa’s management and UFC so it is something that we are looking at at the moment.

“Obviously it is a little way off being confirmed.

“But it is a fight that would unify a lot of the fans from both UFC and boxing and make a mega event.”

We spoke to Betsafe about the prospect – and they are already pricing up the possible big fight, with Haye at just 1/6 and Manuwa at 9/2.

Betsafe’s boxing specialist David Hill told TheGamblingTImes: “The smart money would be on Haye. Despite his defeat to Tony Bellew, he is still a major player in the Heavyweight division.

“His speed would be just too great for Manuwa and I would expect him to land one of his trademark Hayemaker’s and finish the fight inside 3 rounds.’’

We have also got reaction from our boxing expert Tim Rickson, who is not convinced by the prospects of MMA and Boxing mixing things up.

“I’m not a fan of this crossover malarkey between UFC and professional boxing,” Rickson admitted.

For me, a good boxer beats any other fighter. There’s more skill and technique in boxing than any other combat sport – it’s called the sweet science for a reason.

“For me, a good boxer beats any other fighter. There’s more skill and technique in boxing than any other combat sport – it’s called the sweet science for a reason.

“I admit that I know very little about UFC and MMA because it doesn’t appeal to me. It’s not an art form like boxing is, hence why I’m not a fan.

“It’s easy to see that I will always pick a boxer to win any of these type of fights, which I hope won’t actually happen.

“Why would you want to watch Haye v Manuwa when you could watch Haye fight AJ, Parker or either one of the Fury’s. Similarly, why would you want to watch Mayweather v McGregor when you could see Mayweather against Pac, Thurman, Spence, Khan, Brook or Garcia.

“I could list 20 fighters I would pay to watch ahead of that fight!”
