West Ham United have held talks with David Moyes as they prepare to part company with manager Slaven Bilic.
Bilic has been under pressure for much of the season and the weekend’s 4-1 hammering at the hands of Liverpool looks set to be his final game in charge.
West Ham have been looking at potential replacements for months, but they appear to have decided to give former Everton and Manchester United boss Moyes the chance to put things right as Hammers sources have confirmed to me that they are ready to make a quick appointment.
I understand Burnley’s Sean Dyche was someone they were seriously considering, but Moyes is now firm favourite to replace Bilic, and he admits the job doe appeal.
“I’ve always said I want to go back into club management. If the right opportunity comes around, I’ll be interested,” said Moyes when asked about West Ham.
“I am interested but at the moment that vacancy has not become available. I know what Slaven must be going through.”
Moyes last role was with Sunderland, who he failed to keep in the Premier League last season, but clearly West Ham feel he is the right man to replace Bilic – who has been in charge of The Hammers since the summer of 2015.
I have also been told that Bilic has not been spoken to by West Ham’s owners since the defeat, as they are clearly making their move without the Croatian’s knowledge.
Most Bookmakers have now closed their markets on next Premier League manager to leave, and Moyes is now 1/5 to take charge at the London Stadium.
Spokesman Paddy Power said: “David Moyes has attracted a lot of attention recently, and I don’t just mean the social media mocking – our punters have lumped on. A bit like he’ll probably have his team lumping it up to Andy Carroll.”
