David Unsworth wants Everton job

Everton’s interim boss David Unsworth has underlined his desire to land the job on a full-time basis.

Unsworth has been handed the caretaker role following Ronald Koeman’s sacking on Monday.

The former Everton defender, who is currently the club’s Under-23 boss, served as caretaker last year when Roberto Martinez was fired and prior to Koeman taking charge.

Unsworth will take charge of his first game on Wednesday when Everton travel to London to face Chelsea in the fourth round of the League Cup, and he has not hidden his desire to land the job.

“Who wouldn’t want this job? any manager would want this job and I am no different,” he said.

Everton are already looking at targets, with Burnley’s Sean Dyche and Huddersfield’s David Wagner amongst the other domestic candidates who have been considered – whilst their are also some big-name foreign candidates with Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti also linked.

Dyche has admitted to be flattered to be linked to the role and has said: “It’s very flattering, but I’ve been linked with other situations before.

“I just keep getting on with my job until things change. It’s out of my hands, I’m just getting on with what I do.”

Bookmakers now believe Unsworth has a real shot of landing the job and BetVictor make him 2/1 favourite.

“David Unsworth is one of a number of candidates been well backed for the Everton job,” said BetVictor

“Sean Dyche, who had been backed down to as short as even money yesterday, is on the drift back out to 3/1 whilst Thomas Tuchel was the overnight mover with the German 5/1 from 20/1.”
