De Bruyne confident of top award but Bookies cut Salah odds

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne is believes he deserves to win Player of the Year, as it will help recognise his club’s achievements – but the Bookmakers believe Mo Salah could very well land the honour.

De Bruyne has been odds-on favourite since betting opened on the award, as he has been the stand-out player for City, in what has been one the most dominate title charge in Premier League history.

“If I get it, it would be nice I think for the team and for me. In one way I believe I deserve it because I have been very consistent in my form.

“I am very happy with myself, I am very pleased with how I have played, I didn’t expect to be this good this season, to be honest.

“I think there is almost no game where my standard has dropped, so I have been very constant, and I am very happy with myself. To maintain the level the amount of games I have played, the amount of minutes, I am very pleased with that.”

However, as good as De Bruyne has been – Salah has been equally as good and is on course to become the leading goal-scorer in Premier League history, which is in his maiden campaign with Liverpool – having previously failed at Chelsea.

Now Bookmakers still have De Buryne odds on at 5/6 but Salah is right there alongside him on the same odds.

“We can’t now separate the two players who have clearly been the standout stars of the season,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“The recent money has been for the Liverpool forward though, as punters believe his goals may just end up being the factor that separates them when it comes to voting.”
