De Gea not thinking about contract as Juventus join hunt

David De Gea insists he is not thinking about his contract situation at Manchester United despite being linked with a summer move.

The Spanish star’s current contract expires in the summer but United do have an option to extend by another season.

Talks have been ongoing but as yet a deal is not close to completion, which has given Juventus real cause to think they could land him at the end of the season.

“What matters is the team and all of us being focused on what we need to focus on, which is winning games, rather than contracts or any topics that can be a distraction,” said De Gea.

“What matters is focusing on football.”

Sources close to United believe they are happy to continue working on De Gea’s deal and there is little fear they will lose him at the end of the season, having already fought off Real Madrid in recent years.

Bookmakers are certainly taking Juventus’ interest seriously and they are made 6/4 favourites to land him next.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “As if things couldn’t get any worse for United fans, there’s every chance they could be without De Gea come the opening day of next season.”
