De Gea odds on for Real move as Courtois nears new deal

Manchester United’s David De Gea is odds on to join Real Madrid this summer, with their other top target Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois in talks over a new deal.

De Gea has fallen out-of-favour with Jose Mourinho in recent weeks with Sergio Romero very much the preffered option – indeed the United boss has confirmed that the Argentine will be in goal for next week’s Europa League final.

“I hope to play Sergio in the final. Hopefully we don’t have problems with these two keepers,” said Mourinho.

“But David is top in the world and obviously we want to keep the top in the world.

“We have the Argentina national goalkeeper and the Spanish national goalkeeper – two of the best national teams in the world.

“We have these two guys. They are phenomenal. And I keep saying the Portuguese kid [Pereira] is a very good goalkeeper. So in relation to that, we are in safe gloves.”

United have been linked with other goalkeepers, including Benfica’s Ederson, and our Football Insider Graeme Bailey believes that he will be heading for the Old Trafford exit door.

“De Gea has never hidden his desire to go back to Spain one day, and Madrid would clearly be his preferred destination,” he told TheGamblingTimes.com.

“He has signed a new deal since his move to Real Madrid collapsed in 2015, but even since then it has seemed a matter if when rather than if he would join Spanish giants.

“For me, I can really see this happening, especially given how United have done in recent weeks without him.”

Bailey also confirmed Chelsea’s desire to tie down Courtois to a new deal, which would also suggest a deal for De Gea is more likely.

“Courtois is also of interest to Madrid, no doubt, but unlike De Gea he is more than happy at Chelsea for the foreseeable future – he won’t be leaving Stamford Bridge anytime soon as it stands.”

Bookmakers clearly believe Real Madrid are very close to landing De Gea and SkyBet list them at just 1/5 to land him this summer.
