Definitly Red has bookies running scared

If Grand National favourite Definitly Red wins the big race on Saturday, it will cost bookmakers millions.

The Brian Ellison trained horse has been favourite for a few weeks now, and with Liverpool’s famous association with Red – a lot more money is expected on him before the race goes off at 5:15 on Saturday.

Over £200million is expected to be back on the big race before Saturday, and combined with The Masters, the Premier League, other Aintree races plus various other sporting fixtures, the bookmaking industry is set to see £350million in bets come the end of the week.

“This weekend will be the biggest betting event in history,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

“The Grand National, The Masters and the football fixtures will generate the highest turnover levels on any weekend in history.

“Definitly Red is going to appeal to name punters, football fans and racing fans. We think it is highly likely to start as favourite with liabilities in the Millions.”
