Dettori has eyes on Enable rivals

Frankie Dettori goes into Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly very confident of taking victory on Enable, but he has his eyes on two main rivals on the shape of Ulysses and Winter.

Enable has been officially supplemented at a cost of €120,000 as the John Gosden trained filly was not entered at the first stage.

The odds-on favourite will be ridden by Dettori and he has highlighted Sir Michael Stoute’s Ulysses and Aidan O’Brien’s Winter – who may run in the Prix de l’Opera instead – as Enable’s main rivals.

“I am really looking forward to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, but of course I am feeling a bit nervous too,” said Dettori.

“I expect it’s going to be a big field and there will be a lot of dangers in the race. She needs a good draw and Chantilly can be a bit tricky.

“The main danger for me is Ulysses. I am a big fan of him and he’s a horse on the up.

“Obviously if Winter turns up she will also be a threat, but there is a question mark about her stamina.

Enable remains 8/11 favourite ahead of the final declarations on Friday, ahead of Ulysses at 6/1.

Order Of St George has been cut into 8/1 from 10/1, leading the charge for Aidan O’Brien, who at the minute could saddle up to seven runners as all have been left in at this stage.

Aoife Heffron, spokeswoman for BoyleSports commented: “Money continues to be steady for 8/11 firm favourite Enable, with punter’s clearly unable to see past John Gosden’s filly in the l’Arc de Triomphe this Sunday as her form is rock solid and she won this year’s King George at Ascot on testing ground, conditions which are likely for this Sunday.

“O’Brien’s Order Of St George is now the shortest price from his field of seven, after shrewd each way support saw his odds cut to 8/1 from 10/1.”
