French coach Didier Deschamps is firm favourite to be named FIFA Coach of the Year.
Deschamps guided his country to World Cup victory in Russia and in-so-doing became the third person to win a World Cup Final as a player and manager.
Deschamps is rate at Evens to take the award ahead of Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola – whose side convincingly claimed the Premier League, and Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane – who guided them to an unprecedented third straight Champions League title.
England boss Gareth Southgate is also nominated after guiding the Three Lions to the semi-finals in Russia.
Croatia’s Zlatko Dalic, whose side beat England in the semi-finals of the World Cup, and Russia’s Stanislav Cherchesov are also nominated along with Belgium’s Roberto Martinez.
The others nominated are Massimiliano Allegri of Juventus – whose domination of Serie A continued, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp who took his team to the Champions League final, Barcelona’s Ernesto Valverde and Diego Simeone – whose Atletico Madrid side captured the Europa League.
The Bookmakers are convinced that Deschamps will be taking home the award which is presented in London in September.
Paddy Power commented: “Yeah, sure, Didier Deschamps won a World Cup. But Gareth Southgate reunited an entire nation. And Zinedine Zidane left Real Madrid with a mic drop.
“We make Deschamps the clear favourite. Which would at least mix it up from Pep winning everything.”
