Diego Costa insistent on Atletico Madrid but Bookies see Chelsea future

Diego Costa insists that he is not going back to Chelsea and has called on them to lower their asking price, but Bookmakers are starting to think he could yet re-appear for the club.

Chelsea have fined the Brazilian-born Spanish international, who is refusing to return to Europe until his transfer away from Stamford Bridge is agreed.

The Premier League champions, who told him earlier in the summer he was not part of their plans, have ordered Costa to report back to the club.

However, Costa is insistent he only wants to join Atletico Madrid – who can’t actually register new players until January because of a transfer ban,

In an exclusive interview with ESPN Brasil, Costs said: “I’ve demonstrated I care for Atletico and have interest in playing for them,” he said.

“But if Atletico and Chelsea don’t come to an agreement and Atletico don’t make a big effort, I can’t keep on wanting to play for a club that isn’t going to make a bigger effort to try and sign me.

“I know that this [big effort] will happen, but if it’s to pay the amount that Chelsea want it won’t be possible.

“What I know is that this offer Chelsea will get is bigger than what they paid [when they signed Costa from Atletico for £32 million in July 2014], so I’ve given them something back in all senses [sporting and financial].”

However, the longer this window goes on – some believe he could yet end up playing for Chelsea again, including the Bookmakers who are quickly cutting his odds, despite the current fall-out between the club and player.

PaddyPower make him 6/5 he plays for the club again, but 5/6 to never play for Chelsea again.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Costa has launched an Atleti-come and get me plea, overlooking the slight issue that they can’t sign anyone until January.

“So he’ll be checking his texts regularly to see if there’s a change of heart by Conte – or a change of boss by Chelsea.”

You can also get 4/1 on him being Chelsea top-scorer this season or 3/1 to out-last boss Antonio Conte.
