Dortmund insistent over Sancho as Barcelona are made favourites

Barcelona have been made favourites to land Jadon Sancho this summer, but Borussia Dortmund remain insistent he won’t be leaving.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for the former Manchester City star, although a host of clubs are taking a keen interest with Barca now reported to be the leading contenders.

But Dortmund, who have already sold Christian Pulisic to Chelsea, do not plan on letting another midfielder leave.

“I’m far from putting a price tag on Jadon, but I will say that, even for the biggest club in the world, his transfer would be difficult right now,” Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said.

“Jadon will play at Dortmund next season and we are definitely planning with. He certainly will not play until his retirement in Dortmund. That too is true.”

Despite Dortmund’s stance, Bookmakers have now drastically slashed the odds of Sancho joining Barcelona this summer, following a large series of bets.

Paddy Power had the youngster priced at 40/1 to head to the Camp Nou, but his price has now fallen to 4/1 – making them the new favourites to secure his signature.

That means Barca leapfrog previous favourites Man United at 11/2, and puts them ahead of other Premier League sides such as Liverpool (12/1) and Manchester City (16/1).

While Bayern Munich, Real Madrid (both 25/1), Chelsea (33/1), Tottenham (40/1) and Arsenal (50/1) are all considered outsiders.

And he’s now rated odds-on 4/5 to sell for over £100m, or 1/25 to go for over £50m.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “We’ve seen a lot of interest in a move to Barcelona for Jadon Sancho this morning, forcing his odds down from 40/1 to 4/1, eclipsing previous favourites Man United.

“One of the most sought-after talents in the world, he may now need to make a choice between Las Ramblas or Deansgate, but in terms of the betting, Barcelona are winning the race.”
