Danny Drinkwater is being backed to stay at Leicester City despite interest from Premier League champions Chelsea.
Antonio Conte’s side are believed to be looking for extra midfielder cover after allowing Nemanja Matic to join Manchester United and Drinkwater is one name on their list.
The England midfielder has a long-term deal at the King Power Stadium, but news of Chelsea’s interest has now emerged and I also understand Liverpool are monitoring the situation.
But Leicester’s sources, whilst confirming the interest, have told me they would not entertain an approach for a player they consider vital to them.
And the Bookmakers firmly believe that Drinkwater will be staying in Leicester blue next season, although Chelsea have seen their odds slashed to 15/8.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Conte’s been spending money for fun this summer, so it’s certainly not out of the realms of possibility he adds Drinkwater to his squad.”
