When it comes to the big races in Ireland it is very simple.
Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. Churchill should have the Irish Champion Stakes covered, Winter has the Matron sewn up and Order of St George should make it a betting treble.
So, in the main we’re going to look at a couple of small field races this week. Starting off with the September Stakes at Kempton. Midterm was a very good winner over Mount Logan at Epsom and it appears he might be a little overpriced. While it is his first start on the all-weather in this race, he is progressive and at the odds he is more attractive than Chemical Charge.
Ralph Beckett should be applauded for being so patient with Chemical Charge, but despite a convincing win at Musselburgh, I really do feel the bookies have the odds wrong.
Of the others, Danehill Kodiac is probably the pick of the rest after winning on Newmarket’s July Course, but this is a tougher task.
The pick of the weekend action is the Haydock Sprint Cup.
Harry Angel is a beast and I think he will win this. Following a tremendous win in the July Cup, he has to repel all raiders. I believe he can do so. The chief danger is possibly The Tin Man who secured the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. Tasleet is worth noting, too, after a narrow defeat in that race.
Cougar Mountain and Magical Memory are others with place claims, but I truly hope Harry Angel etches his name in to the upper classes of Sprint Champions. Have a winning weekend.
