World number one Dustin Johnson is a doubt for The Masters after falling down the stairs at his rental home.
Johnson has been the star of the golfing world in 2017 and is the undoubted favourite to be donning his first green jacket in Augusta on Sunday.
But now with the tournament just 24 hours away, his agents have confirmed that he is doubt to take his place.
A statement released by the PGA Tour read: “David Winkle of Hambric Sports says in an email that Johnson fell on the stairs of his rental home in Augusta on Wednesday. He says Johnson landed hard on his lower back and is resting with discomfort.
“Doctors have advised Johnson to remain stable and start taking anti-inflammatory medication.
“Winkle says Johnson hopes to be able to play in the Masters when it starts on Thursday.”
SkyBet have already taken Johnson’s odds out to 8/1 and have made Rory McIlroy their new favourite to win.
We spoke with SkyBet’s Dale Tempest who told us: “After been backed off the board we can’t now give DJ away. We will find out tomorrow just how bad his injury is but until we really see him swing we won’t know if he’s genuinely going to be competitive.”
