Eden Hazard keeps Chelsea at arm’s length

Chelsea are desperate to try and convince Eden Hazard to sign a new deal, but Real Madrid remain confident they will land the Belgian.

Hazard, whose current contract has just over 18-months left to run, has regularly insisted that his options are open, and that he has not made a decision on whether he should stay or leave Stamford Bridge.

Sources close to Chelsea believe that they are ready to make Hazard the highest paid player in English football, eclipsing the deal that Alexis Sanchez is on at Manchester United which equates to just over £500,00-a-week.

However, it is understood that even that sort of money may not be enough to convince him to stay – given the interest from Real Madrid, which could see them making a move for him next summer.

Hazrd’s fellow countryman and friend Thibaut Courtois was able to force through a move to the Santiago Bernabeu last summer – with just a year to run on his contract.

“I have one year left in June. If I don’t extend, it (a move) is possible,” Hazard said of a possible move at the end of the season.

Hazard himself does not see a move in January.

“I can’t see myself leaving in January. I wouldn’t do that to the club, to the fans. Next summer it’s a possibility, but it’s also possible that I spend the rest of my career at Chelsea.”

Bookmakers agree with Hazard’s take that he will not be leaving in January, with PaddyPower making him 1/40 to stay with Chelsea, whilst a move to Real is 9/1.
