Enable eyes King George Showdown

Trainer John Gosden will decide later this week whether to unleash double Oaks winner Enable at Ascot this weekend.

Gosden says a final decision on Enable’s participation will be made on Wednesday as he assesses whether to let her run in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday.

After winning in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh on July 15, she was expected to be aimed at the Yorkshire Oaks at York’s Ebor Festival.

However, she is already looking in great shape and she is now likely to face the likes of Highland Reel and Idago at Ascot.

Gosden told At The Races: “There was a big gap between the Oaks and the Irish Oaks so it’s not like she’s been over raced this season.

“We’ll be making the decision on Wednesday morning with the declarations coming on Thursday.

“Nobody wants to see it go very soft, heavy, we don’t want to see that but some give in the ground shouldn’t bother her at all.”

BetVictor make Enable a 7/4 chance to beat her elders on Saturday.

Spokesperson Charlie McCann said: “The classic generation have only won two of the last thirteen renewals of this famous open-age race but on both those occasions – Nathaniel in 2011 and Taghrooda in 2014 –  the winner was saddled by John Gosden and the Newmarket handler looks to be favouring a crack at Highland Reel, his brother Idaho and Enable’s stablemate Jack Hobbs with his dual classic winner.

“We have cut Enable from 6/1 to 7/4 following the news and it would be no surprise to see her market leader if she gets the green light from connections midweek.”
