Enable not retiring and set for 2020 season

Superstar Enable is set to continue her quest for a third Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after her owner Khalid Abdullah confirmed the shock news that she will continue her racing career into 2020.

Enable was denied an historic third Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe when she was beaten into second by Waldgeist, who is set to return to defend his crown next year.

The presumption was that Enable would be retired as a five-year-old, but she is going to continue for another chance to make history – as no horse has ever won the Arc three times.

In a statement, Abdullah’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe said: “Prince Khalid has decided to keep Enable in training for 2020.

“She has come out of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in good form and will not race again this year.

“Her racing programme will be determined entirely on her well being, so no racing plans will be announced at this stage. The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe remains an important target.”

Bookmakers shave now scrambled to price up the Arc in 2020, and Enable is favourite – although it could be a mouthwatering prospect that she could face Waldgeist again as well as Pinatubo, the brilliant undefeated youngster who many are liking to Frankel.

Enable is 6/1 with Coral to win the Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe, and 3/1 with the sponsor to repeat this year’s victory in the Coral-Eclipse.

“It’s a huge boost to the sport of Flat racing that Enable will stay in training for a fifth season, and having lost very little in defeat in this year’s Arc, she is just 6-1 to complete the treble in twelve months time, and half those odds to repeat this summer’s brilliant Coral-Eclipse victory,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
