England to name World Cup squad – Loftus-Cheek and Delph odds cut

The Football Association have confirmed England’s World Cup squad will be named on May 16, and Bookmakers closing in who they think are going to make the 23 with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fabian Delph both tipped to make the final cut.

England manager Gareth Southgate will announce his squad for the World Cup in Russia on Wednesday, and Bookmakers are already confident they know who is going to make the plane.

England start their Group G campaign against Tunisia on 18 June, before games against Panama on 24 June and Belgium on 28 June.

Southgate has so far lost Liverpool pair Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joe Gomez from those who were likely to make the cut.

Now both Manchester City’s Delph and Chelsea’s Loftus-Cheek have seen their odds cut – with both now odds-on, and both favoured to get the nod from Southgate.

The big names tipped to miss out as it stands are Danny Welbeck (4/5), Adam Lallana (8/11) and Gary Cahill (10/11).

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Plenty of blockbuster names are massive odds-on shots at this stage, but a huge move in favour of Loftus-Cheek and Delph this week has massively damaged Welbeck and Lallana’s chances of getting a call-up.”

The final 23 according to Ladbrokes will be…
Eric Dier, Raheem Sterling, Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Kyle Walker, Jamie Vardy, Jesse Lingard, Jordan Henderson, Jordan Pickford, Marcus Rashford, Jack Butland, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Harry Maguire, Danny Rose, Jack Wilshere, Ryan Bertrand, Joe Hart, Ashley Young, James Tarkowski, Phil Jones, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Fabian Delph
