The draws for the finals of Euro 2020 have been made and Bookmakers have installed England as second favourites to take the title.

Gareth Southgate’s side were drawn in Group D –  where they will face Croatia, who beat them in the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 and Czech Republic.

They will also face one of Scotland, Israel, Norway or Serbia – who are due to play-off to try and claim one of the final spots.

Group A: Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, Wales

 

Group B: Belgium, Russia, Denmark, Finland

 

Group C: Ukraine, Netherlands, Austria, Path D/A (one of Iceland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Georgia, North Macedonia, Kosovo or Belarus)

 

Group D: England, Croatia, Czech Republic, Path C (one of Scotland, Israel, Norway, Serbia)

 

Group E: Spain, Poland, Sweden, Path B (one of Slovakia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland)

 

Group F: Germany, France, Portugal, Path A/D (one of Iceland, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Georgia, North Macedonia, Kosovo or Belarus)

 

All of England’s group games will be at Wembley – who will also host the semi-finals and final, with another 11 cities take a turn at hosting a game at some point in the finals.

And Southgate is confident ahead of the finals.

“We’ve got to be confident in our own ability and take on whatever comes and I think other teams will be thinking the same as us,” he said.

“I think there are eight to ten top nations and if you look at the history of European Championships, there are so many different winners.

“A lot of teams prepare their squads for World Cups and then rebuild after World Cup, so the margins are really fine.

“With so many of our young players emerging – the team for the last two qualifiers was very young – we’ve got to make sure we get that balance right.

“But I think everyone can see that we’re a team which can keep improving.

“We have to accept expectations have changed from where we were. We know we’ve a lot to improve upon, and the team are critical of themselves.”

If England win their group, their last-16 tie would take place in Dublin against the runner-ups from whaht is seen as the Group of death in the shape of Group F – which includes Germany, France and Portugal.

Wales came out in Group A with Italy, Switzerland and Turkey. Wales will place against the Swiss and Turks in Baku, before facing the Italians in Rome.

And Ryan Giggs was pleased how things have planned out with their fixtures.

“Logistically looking at it, it’s Baku, Baku, Rome, rather than having Rome in the middle – so for the fans it’s much better,” he said.

“Switzerland are a good team, talented. Turkey were in a group with France and Iceland so have done well to come through that. And Italy have won every game so that will be tough.

“I’ve played against Italy a few times. With their qualifying, winning every game, and a really good footballing country – I look forward to that game.”

Bookmakers have been quick to install France as favourites with England just behind.

“England will have no fear in facing Croatia at Wembley after they gained revenge for their World Cup defeat with a win over them in the Nations League. Southgate’s men are leading contenders to win the tournament and we have them as second favourites only just behind a French side who will have to overcome a really tough set of fixtures in the group stages,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
