Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the hunt for Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti.
It emerged last year that Umtiti – who only joined Barca from Lyon in 2016 – had a release clause of just over £50million, which in the modern game is not a lot for a highly-rated international footballer.
24-year-old Umtitihas told Barcelona to hand him a new deal, which would take out the clause and United were the first team to show interest last summer, although some at the English club were of the opinion that they were being used to force a new deal.
However, sources close to Barcelona have confirmed that there is a real worry about Umtiti’s future, as a new deal is not near to completion.
And now, I understand that it is not just United looking – with Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all now showing a keen interest in Umtiti’s situation.
City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal – like United – are all in the market for a centre-half, and to get a player of Umtiti’s calibre for just over £50million is a huge appeal and now Barca are worried that the financial package on offer in England could see them lose the French stopper.
Bookmakers believe that should Umiti make the move, then United would be his likely landing spot with The Red Devils 2/1 favourites to land him with BetVictor.
