Europa League Preview

Arsenal and Everton are back in European action on Thursday, having enjoyed contrasting starts to their Europa League.

Arsenal top Group H after easing to victories in the opening two games and Arsene Wenger is looking for them to maintain their dominance in Belgrade as they take on Serbian giants Red Star.

“It’s the first time in 20 years we’ve been in the Europa League so we are now discovering the level. For us it’s a potential trophy to win but we also want to do well in all the other competitions we are in,” said the Frenchman.

Everton have not been able to replicate Arsenal’s form and are without a win in Group E and they face a huge test with French outfit Lyon coming to Goodison Park.

With pressure mounting on Ronald Koeman, he knows his side need to produce a performance.

“It is a really important game,” said Koeman. “We know the situation in the group – we need a win. We expected a win last time against Apollon Limassol but we were unlucky and they scored in the last few minutes [to draw].

“But you know that one point from two games means you need a win. You need three wins at home and try to pick up what you can away. The situation is that we need to win to get good possibilities to go through in this tournament.”
