Marcus Rashford hit an extra-time winner for Manchester United to send them into the Europa League semi-finals, as three of the four quarter-final ties needed extra-time to decide a winner.

The young England striker struck ten-minutes from the end of extra-time to send United through, having been held to a 1-1 draw during normal time.

United began the evening as favourites and they are now 10/11 to win the trophy in Stockholm later this year.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan had put United ahead after just ten-minutes but Anderlecht showed real spirit and levelled just after the half-hour through Sofiane Hanni.

Both sides had their chances to win it, but it was Rashford who claimed the all important win.

One huge negative for United was a nasty looking knee injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who landed awkwardly after going up for a header.

Lyon progressed 7-6 on penalties with their captain Maxime Gonalons scoring the all important spot-kick in Istanbul.

The tie ended 3-3 on aggregate after Besiktas claimed a 2-1 win on the night as two goals from Brazilian Talisca sandwiched an effort from Alexandre Lacazette.

Besiktas’ Ricardo Quaresma and Ryan Babel both missed good chances to win it for the home side while Lacazette also hit the woodwork, but neither side could find a way through in normal time or extra-time.

Ten-man Ajax went through after two late goals in extra-time gave them a 4-3 aggregate win over German outfit Schalke.

The German outfit were 2-0 down from the first-leg but two goals just after the interval from Leon Goretzka and Guido Burgstaller levelled the tie and send it into extra-time, although Ajax went into the extra 30-minuntes a man down as Joel Veltman picked up two yellow cards late in normal time.

The home side then looked to be in control as Daniel Caligiuri made it 3-0 on the evening – but Ajax battled back to record a memorable win.

Nick Viergever levelled the tie on 111 minutes before Amin Younes sealed their passage with a goal in added time.

Celta Vigo booked their place in the semi-finals after a 1-1 draw in Genk – meaning they go through 4-3 on aggregate.

Pione Sisto fired home the opener just after the hour to put Celta ahead before Leandro Trossard levelled just minutes later – but the home side could not find anything else as the Spaniards progressed.
