Everton considering Unsworth option

Everton are seriously considering giving David Unsworth the chance to prove himself, after positive feedback from the squad after he took control.

Under-23 coach Unsworth was placed in interim charge of the first-team following Ronald Koeman’s sacking on Monday.

Chairman Bill Kenwright is known to be big fan of Unsworth and is pushing the club’s owner Farhad Moshiri to seriously consider giving him the job.

Unsworth lost in his first game in charge of Everton on Wednesday, but the performance was much improved.

Unsworth is now due to meet with Moshiri and Kenwright on Friday, ahead of the weekend’s crucial clash at Leicester City on Sunday – who themselves have just appointed Claude Puel as boss.

“I’m scheduled to meet [Moshiri] on Friday afternoon with the chairman [Bill Kenwright],” he said.

“I speak to the chairman two, three, four times a day, so communication is brilliant. I’ve got a great relationship with the board. What will be will be: I just have to be committed. We have to try and win, and take it from there.

“There’s no points return or games total they’ve set. We’ll just continue to work and plan game-to-game. All I know is that we’ll hopefully be as committed as that in every game that I’m in charge, and hopefully get on a winning run.

“We started with a great performance. We’ve got to go on a winning streak and very, very quickly, hopefully at Leicester [in the Premier League] on Sunday. I’m quite excited to take that on and work with everybody.”

Despite Unsworth’s impressive beginnings, Everton do have other options and Burnley’s Sean Dyche remains a serious candidate.

Indeed Bookmakers firmly believe that Dyche is favourite to get the job rating him at 3/1 ahead of Unsworth at 4/1.
