Roger Federer is already early favourite to land the Wimbledon title again next year.
The Swiss legend became the most successful man in the long history of the all England Club as he captured his eighth singles title on Sunday.
“It’s special, Wimbledon was always my favourite tournament,” he said.
“I truly believed. For me, it was also important that my team believed it, as well.
“My heroes walked the grounds here and walked the courts here. Because of them, I think I became a better player too.
“To make history here at Wimbledon really means a lot to me just because of all of that really. It’s that simple.”
Roger Federer was a 16/1 shot to win the 2017 Wimbledon Singles crown when Andy Murray lifted the trophy last year but the 19-time Grand Slam winner is bet365’s 11/4 favourite to win the 2018 showpiece after defeating Marin Cilic on Sunday.
The ‘Big Four’ of Federer, Murray, Djokovic and Nadal have dominated SW19 since 2003 and it’s 4/7 one of them wins it again next year.
bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “While his big four rivals were falling by the wayside, Federer raced to his 8th Wimbledon title on the bridle.
“We’ve given up on writing him off and he’s our favourite to make it next year.”
