Frank De Boer on the brink

Frank De Boer is on the brink of being the first Premier League manager to lose his job, and the axe could drop before Monday if things go against him this weekend.

Crystal Palace have endured a shocking start to the new season, losing all three of their opening games including the hugely disappointing 2-0 defeat to Swansea last time out.

De Boer is known to have clashed with chairman Steve Parish over the club’s transfer dealings, but likewise the Palace co-owner has voiced his displeasure with how the team are playing.

Now the Dutchman, who lost his last job at Inter Milan after less than 90 days, is in danger of beating that record at Palace.

Palace travel to Burnley this weekend, and Parish is demanding victory – defeat would almost certainly cost De Boer his job, sources have confirmed to me.

Bookmakers have had De Boer as favourite, to go for a number of weeks but now he is odds-on and his prices are getting shorter and shorter.

We spoke to BetVictor’s Head of antepost Football Michael Triffitt about the market on first Premier League manager to go.

“It’s been a difficult start to life in his managerial career with Crystal Palace for Frank De Boer who heads the market for next manager to go as a strong 4/7 favourite,” he told TheGamblingTimes.com.

“The Eagles face a crucial trip to Burnley this weekend and defeat there may well end the Dutchman’s short reign such is the importance of this fixture.

“Slaven Bilic is also under pressure at West Ham and is just 3/1 to go first with the Hammers hosting Premier League new boys Huddersfield at home whilst Rafa Benitez still seems on edge at Newcastle and a poor transfer window has done little to help him out. He is a 5/1 shot and The Toon are away at Swansea looking to build on a promising 3-0 win over West Ham last time out.”
