Golovkin early favourite to beat Canelo

One of the biggest boxing clashes ever has been confirmed for September when Mexican star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will take on Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin.

After sealing a unanimous point decision over compatriot Julio Chavez Jnr in Las Vegas on Saturday, it was confirmed almost straight after that a deal had been agreed.

Alvarez, with promoter Oscar De La Hoya confirming the bout is “signed, sealed and delivered” for 16 September.

Golovkin will put his WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight titles on the line against the WBO light-middleweight champion.

The fight will take place in Las Vegas and already has the boxing world salivating at the prospect.

William Hill are already pricing up the ‘Super-fight’ in favour of European ace Golovkin – who is undefeated in his career so far.

“This is the fight that boxing fans have being calling out for the last few years,” said William Hill spokesman Tony Kenny.

“GGG looked in a different weight class to Canelo when the pair squared up to promote the fight– and I don’t think there will be too many fans shocked to see that he is the odds-on favourite to win the fight.”
