Griezmann still odds on for United switch

Antoine Griezmann remains odds on to join Manchester United this summer.

The Atletico Madrid front-man has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, and the English giants have never denied an interest in the French star.

The 26-year-old himself has confirmed that a move to United is possible.

When speaking to French TV programme Quotidien he said: “I think I will decide [on my future] in the next two weeks.

Asked if United would be his new club he replied: “Possible, possible.” Asked to give the chances on a scale of one to 10, Griezmann added “six”.

The presenter replied: “It’s the first time you’ve said that.” And Griezmann replied “it’s the first time.”

Griezmann, who scored 26 goals for Atletico last season, could cost United up to £85million, which is his buy-out clause – and subject to them getting their transfer ban over-turned, they have a deal agreed already for Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette – who would look a ready made replacement for his fellow countryman.

Reports in Spain suggest that United’s participation in next season’s Champions League is key to the Griezmann move, and they will be in Europe’s elite competition next term if they win the Europa League final on Wednesday against Ajax.

Bookmakers remained convinced that Griezmann will sign for United and SkyBet make them 4/9 to complete a deal.

SkyBet’s Dale Tempest told TheGamblingTimes.com: “The Griezmann to United talk has been going on for most of this season and if Mourinho picks up the Europa League trophy on Wednesday evening the present 4/9 price can only get shorter.”

Our Football Insider Graeme Bailey, believes the deal is already agreed and told us: “This has been done for a while, it is not signed yet – but everything is all but done. Even if United do not win the Europa League and are not in the Champions League, I still think he will sign for them – but winning in Stockholm will clearly make things a lot easier for them.

“But I would be shocked if we don’t see in the red of United as their main man next season.”
