With Atletico Madrid able to buy again from January, that means their top talent is also back on the agenda too and talk of a move for Antoine Griezmann in the New Year is already in the news.
Sources in Spain already claim that Atletico have been contacted by clubs asking about the French striker, who was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United last summer.
However, once Atletico’s summer ban on incoming transfers was not over-turned, the club’s big names stayed loyal – with Griezmann confirming he could not just leave the club without having the ability to replace him.
Now the window has closed, it is understood Griezmann’s release clause has halved to just over £90million – making the prospect of him leaving in January a realistic one.
United are again strongly linked, whilst Barcelona – who are still reeling from the loss of Neymar to Paris Saint Germain – are also favoured to make a push for him.
Ladbrokes currently make United and Barcelona joint favourite to land him at 3/1.
United’s neighbours, Man City, are next in the betting at 5/1, with PSG and Bayern Munich 7/1 and 8/1 respectively, although there’s no room in the market for Atletico’s bitter rivals in Madrid, Real.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “This summer’s transfer window has barely slammed shut, but players are already looking ahead to the future. And having missed out on a big money move this year, there’s every chance clubs will be queuing up to land Griezmann when the window opens up again.”
