Manchester City are favourites to sign Claudio Marchisio, although boss Pep Guardiola has played down talk of his arrival at the Etihad.
The 32-year-old left Juventus after 13-years and the Italian international is now free to join any club – including Premier League ones, despite their window being closed.
Guardiola admitted to being a fan, but insists he is set to wait until January for another new face despite the recent injury to Kevin De Bruyne.
“No. First a big comment for his career – he made an amazing career at Juventus and with the national team,” said the City boss.
“In December, we are going to see what happens in the [next] transfer window but now the squad is the squad.”
Despite this, City have been made early favourites to land Marchisio and are 5/2 to land him.
Chelsea, managed by former Serie A boss Maurizio Sarri, are second-favourites at 7/2, but look well-stocked in the centre of midfield, while Manchester United (5/1) are third in the betting.
Spokesman Paddy Power said: “Claudio Marchisio has been with Juventus for 25 years, so the timing of his departure from the Turin club is very sudden.
“With a gap opening up in the centre of Pep Guardiola’s midfield, I wonder if he’s on his way to the Etihad for a short-term deal.”
