Hammers hoping for Hernandez breakthrough

West Ham United are locked in talks with Javier Hernandez and are hopeful they can come to agreement over his personal terms.

I understand that Hernandez had been demanding wages in excess of £150,000-a-week to move back to the Premier League, which was a stumbling block to any move.

Former Manchester United ace Hernandez, who has one-year left on his current deal at Bayer Leverkusen, is eager to move back to England after two-years in the Bundesliga, where he has bagged 28 goals.

Hernandez is not short of options with offers from China, America, his native Mexico and also around Europe – but he is keen on trying his hand in the Preimer League again.

West Ham have no issue matching his £13million release clause, but his salary has been an issue – but Hammers sources are now confident this hurdle could be overcome following lengthy talks.

The Hammers are also keeping close contact with Leicester over Islam Slimani – who has been interesting Newcastle – and they could compete for him, but Hernandez is their first choice.

Bookmakers firmly believe that Hernandez will be on his way to the London Stadium.

SkyBet are listing him at 1/5 to land at West Ham, and 7/2 to stay at Bayer.
