Harmison – I would have stayed with Roy

So it is crunch time in the ICC Champions Trophy with England, as expected in the semi-finals.

The big news, though, is the decision that Jason Roy is being dropped from the side. I am surprised and I would not have done it.

England are fortunate they have a good replacement  and it has to be Johnny Bairstow. It can’t be Sam Billlings as he hasn’t played at all recently so you could not put him in, full stop – it would be too harsh to put him in – Bairstow will do a good job.

Roy has a good season last year, did well in India but it must be his mind-set that he is struggling, Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss will be looking at him and how he is reacting in the changing room, it will not just be on form.

On his performances I would have picked him, look at Morgan – they stuck with him and look at him now, but it happens to every player and he will react OK, he will still hopefully be part of a successful squad but he will come back stronger – I have not doubt about that, but hopefully this will be good for Jason and he will react in the right way.

So onto the games and I am happy to be covering the semi-final with England and the final, so I am hoping for a good week.

England face Pakistan – and again you never know what you are going to get from the sublime to the ridiculous, that is what they can do – they have a really good side, but I believe England will be too strong and their bowling attacking will be too good and I think we will win out.

Then it is Banglasdesh v India, some people have called it a miss match, but Bangladesh are here on merit and when you have someone like Tamim Iqbal, you write them off at your peril – yes I do expect India to go through, but you can never say never.

However, I do expect England to be playing India, and that is what I believe we will see and hopefully and England win.
