Harry Kane has Wayne Rooney’s England goalscoring record in his sights and Bookmakers firmly believe he will do it.
Kane’s winning goal against Croatia at the weekend was his 20th for his country and bet365 rate him as a 7/4 chance to surpass Wayne Rooney’s record tally of 53 after Gareth Southgate labelled him “the best goalscorer in the world”.
And Kane admits he does have an eye on Rooney’s record
“It is definitely possible, it is still a fair bit away. I don’t like to set my targets that far ahead in the future because a lot can happen,” he said.
“We will see over the years how many goals I have got. Hopefully I will still be fit and healthy and getting selected by the manager. It is achievable but not something I’m thinking about too much right now.”
bet365’s Steve Freeth added: “It took Rooney 49 England matches to reach 20 goals and with Kane doing it in just 35, he looks on course to eclipse the record.”
