Thierry Henry is believed to be on the verge of being named as Aston Villa’s new manager.
Villa have new major investors after Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens bought a controlling 55 per cent stake in Villa from Dr Tony Xia.
Now Sawiris and Eden are understood to want a change at the top with Steve Bruce looking set to be relieved of his duties with Henry landing the role.
And Henry – who quit his media commitments earlier this month to concentrate on a managerial career – enjoyed an outstanding summer as assistant to Roberto Martinez with Belgium, but he now looks set to depart that to take charge at Villa Park.
Bookmakers have now stopped taking bets on Henry landing the job, and indeed are looking ahead to what he will do once he is confirmed in the Villa hot-seat.
Henry is now 7/2 with Betway to achieve promotion to the Premier League in his first season as Villa manager, and it is 11/1 he wins the league.
Betway offer 3/1 for the ex-Gunner to raid his old club and sign any current Arsenal player in the summer transfer window, while the Frenchman is an outside 33/1 with the leading online bookmaker to also play in any 2018/19 match for Villa.
Betway’s Alan Alger, said: “With Thierry Henry set to take over from Steve Bruce at Villa Park, he is already being backed at 7/2 to take the Villains to the Premier League on his first attempt and 11/1 to do it by winning the Championship.
“We’ve seen money at 3/1 for the ex-Arsenal man to permanently sign any first team squad player from his old club during this transfer window and he is 5/6 to still be in charge at the start of 2020.”
