International Friendlies Preview including England v USA

England host USA in what has become a farewell game for Wayne Rooney.

England’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney will captain the side when he wins what will be his 120th cap – despite the fact he retired from international football last year.

Rooney will also get a guard of honour during the game at Wembley – but many, including England boss Gareth Southgate have had to defend the decision.

“We are England and every time we play we have to perform. It’s about Wayne but it will be a special night because there will be some debuts,” said Southgate.

“You don’t give the England captaincy to somebody unless they really have the attributes that can carry it.”

In Dublin, Republic of Ireland face neighbours Northern Ireland for only the 11th time in history.

The Republic have won on four occasions, whilst the Northern Irish have won just twice.

Elsewhere on Thursday, Germany entertain Russia whilst Poland host Czech Republic.
