International Friendlies Preview

England, Scotland and Wales all face big names in friendly action this week.

Scotland entertain Holland in Aberdeen on Thursday, before England take on Germany on Friday at Wembley and Wales face France in Paris.

The Scots are at Pittodrie and are under the interim control of Malky Mackay, the SFA’s performance director, following the departure of head coach Gordon Strachan.

Mackay insists that the squad are up for the game, saying: “When I announced the squad, there was a lot of upbeat attention to it, in terms of freshness.

“Everybody has their opinion. When I pick a team, it’s to win a game. There is no-one I would bring to this squad purely to fill a jersey.

“I’ve said to most of them, you’ve got the chance to grab a jersey and go and get 50 caps. It’s about a pathway to Euro 2020”

England begin their preparations for the World Cup finals by taking on holders Germany and boss Gareth Southgate is ready for some experimentation.

“This period between qualification and the finals has to have an element of experimentation,” Southgate said.

”If we don’t try things in these games, when are we going to try things?”

Wales boss Chris Coleman admits that the game with France this week, and Panama next, could be his last as he is yet to agree a new deal.

“I was always going to be taking this camp. Is it my last camp? I really don’t know,” said Coleman.

“We are where we are, my contract is what it is. We are no further forward from where we were. If this is my last camp then it is not a bad way to sign off, I suppose. France in Paris – maybe the final that never took place for us.

“Panama at home is quite exciting for us. I really don’t know what is going to happen.”
