Chelsea have turned their attention to landing a new goalkeeper, as they look to replace Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgian number one, who has rejected the offer of a new deal at Stamford Bridge, is desperate to quit the club and join Real Madrid – and he has now gone AWOL, not turning up for training as expected.
Courtois has two children living in Madrid, and he is wanting to be with them – whilst also having the chance to join Real.
As Courtois has less than 12-months left on his deal, Chelsea are gearing up to sell and have been looking at a number of options to replace him.
Chelsea need a deal done by Thursday, and have looked at the likes of Petr Cech, Kasper Schmeichel and Jordan Pickford.
They have a deal for Jack Butland in their sights as the England international is attainable – albeit at a £30million asking price, although Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga are also on their list.
Bookmakers believe that Courtois is nearly a done deal, and BetVictor make him 1/6 to join Real Madrid and in-turn Butland’s odds are now as low as 1/2.
BetVictor’s Head of ante post Football Michael Triffitt commented: “Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois is 1/6 from 1/4 to make a summer move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
“Stoke keeper Jack Butland has been linked as a possible replacement at Stamford Bridge and after support at 3/1 earlier today and interest at even money is just 1-2 to be heading to London.”
