Jesus injury is good news for Aguero backers

Gabriel Jesus’s injury is set to impact on Sergio Aguero and the bookmakers are already running scared in the top-goalscorer market

Reports in Brazil are suggesting that Jesus could miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken foot in Monday’s win over Bournemouth.

Jesus has made a stunning impact in recent weeks and has even been promoted ahead of Aguero in the pecking order in Pep Guardiola.

But Guardiola will now have to turn back to Aguero and as a result, bookmakers are already making changes. BetVictor have moved the Argentine to 10/1 from 12/1 already.

Aguero currently has 11 goals, some six behind current leading marksman Alexis Sanchez.

BetVictor Spokesperson Jack Milner: “Aguero remains six goals behind Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez at the top of the scoring charts but will replace Gabriel Jesus as the Citizens’ sole strike and will have plenty of chances created by the quartet of Kevin de Bruyne, Leroy Sane, David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne in the final third.

“BetVictor are 4/1 the field to be the league’s leading marksman this term with strikers Harry Kane, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Diego Costa the co-favourites of five!”

PL Top Goalscorer prices from BetVictor:
Alexis Sanchez (17)         4/1
Romelu Lukaku (16)        4/1
Diego Costa (15)              4/1
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (15)  4/1
Harry Kane (14)               4/1
Sergio Aguero (11)           10/1 (from 12s)
25/1 Bar

However, the loss of Jesus is not going to impact on City’s finishing position, with bet365 still rating them at 2/1 to finish second – which has not changed since Monday’s game with Bournemouth.

“It is a blow on the Jesus front but Pep’s side seem to be clicking as we head into the final few furlongs of the season,” said bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth.

“Jesus has created a good early impression but there’s a handy replacement in the shape of Sergio Aguero waiting in the wings.”

Team finishing position with bet365:
1st: 8/1
2nd: 2/1
3rd: 3/1
4th: 9/2
5th or lower: 3/1
