Jose Mourinho backed to depart

Punters are backing Jose Mourinho to leave Manchester United this summer.

United were embarrassed on Tuesday as they were dumped out of the Champions League by Sevilla – much to the annoyance of a host of Red Devils faithful.

Now Bookmakers are listing the odds on him leaving – Paddy Power are offering odds of 2/1 that the ‘Special One’ won’t be in the Red Devils hot seat come the start of the 2018/19 season – in from 10/1 before last night’s defeat to Sevilla.

The chances of seeing out his contract – which runs until 2020 – are even slimmer, with odds of 5/6 that he doesn’t last his full term.

With Mourinho criticised for the brand of football he has brought to Manchester, the high-pressing and fast-flowing style of Mauricio Pochettino is favourite to replace him. The Spurs boss is rated at 3/1 to take over from Mourinho.

Other likely contenders for the United job include Carlo Ancelotti, Joachim Löw and Diego Simeone (all 8/1). Club legend and former interim boss Ryan Giggs is at 50/1 to return as the next permanent manager.

And, punters can even get odds of 100/1 that Frank de Boer – the latest manager to be tangled in a public spat with Mourinho – replaces the current United boss.

PSG is the favourite destination for Mourinho (5/2), with roles as manager of the Portuguese national team (3/1) or a return to Chelsea (10/1) likely alternatives.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “With City running away with the league and United dumped out of Europe, it looks as though the days of Mourinho as the ‘Special One’ could be over. You have to feel for Jose though, it’s not like he’s been able to spend over £300 million on players since he took over at United.”
