Joshua odds on to land Sports Personality Award

Anthony Joshua is on course to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year this weekend.

Joshua is currently 1/9, having seen his odds cut further following the news surrounding cycling superstar Chris Froome.

The four-time Tour De France winner has returned an “adverse” drugs test at the Vuelta a Espana – which he also win, and indeed was only the third man to win both in the same year.

On the back of Froome’s test news, his odds have stretched to 20/1 – some way of Joshua at 1/7 and Lewis Hamilton at 11/2.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesman for BoyleSports commented: “The news about Chris Froome looks to have dashed any hopes he had of winning the SPOTY gong and punters have clearly turned their backs on him as he has drifted all the way out to 20/1 in the outright market alone.”

“It looks like the trophy is Anthony Joshua’s to lose, but it’s still in the hands of a public vote on Sunday, so we are still seeing plenty of support for Lewis Hamilton to win his second SPOTY award at 11/2, while Harry Kane to finish in the top 3 has been a popular bet in the run up to the ceremony after prolific year in front of goal.”
