Premier League pundit Kevin Kilbane has identified Mauricio Pochettino as the man who Manchester United should be looking for in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s sacking.
Mourinho was dismissed from his job as United manager on Tuesday and afterwards Kilbane took to his BoyleSports blog to express doubt over some of the leading candidates to replace the Portuguese boss:
“Laurent Blanc does have pedigree but wasn’t able to do it with PSG in the Champions League. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is high up in the betting too and he would fit the bill as a temporary manager, someone who could come in and stabilise the club before they are ready to appoint another manager.”
However it’s another current Premier League manager who the pundit believes is the man that has exactly what it takes to assume the hotseat permanently at Old Trafford: “It hasn’t all been right with Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs this season.
“He wanted investment and it didn’t happen and if United want a serious overhaul of the club then there is no better candidate than Pochettino. Obviously you wouldn’t be looking at him to take over right now but as a permanent appointment down the line he is the ideal man to build Manchester United back up from the position they are in at the moment.”
He added: “Pochettino can bring through youth as well as one or two signings which could change the mentality of the club and he can bring a good brand of football back to the team; an attacking, positive and entertaining brand that has been missing from Manchester United since Alex Ferguson departed.”
