Klopp-Barca rumours gaining little traction

Bookmakers, punters and our Football Insider Graeme Bailey, are all unconvinced about the Jurgen Klopp links with Barcelona.

Reports over the weekend and early this week, suggested that the Liverpool boss was one of the names being considered by Barca’s board, as they appear set to part company with current incumbent Luis Enrique this summer – with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Most of the talk has surrounded Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli and Athletic Bilbao’s Ernesto Valverde – with Everton’s Ronald Koeman, a legend in his playing days at the Camp Nou, also attracting attention in the betting market.

Sampaoli and Valverde are rated at 7/2 whilst Koeman is 13/2 but his Merseyside rival Klopp is as long as 10/1.

Enrique on his way out

Our Football Insider Graeme Bailey does not think that Klopp will be the man replacing Enrique and told us: “Clearly Enrique looks to be on his way out, but Barca’s hierarchy will likely know the direction they are going.

“I would be shocked if it isn’t Sampaoli or Valverde to be honest, whilst Koeman would clearly be an interesting option but I can’t see Klopp at the moment.

“He would clearly be a great appointment for any club, but he is far from finished the job he has started at Anfield.”

Ladbrokes News’ Alex Apati said: “There’s a whole host of names in the running for the expected Camp Nou vacancy. But the latest odds are suggesting Barca won’t be trading tiki-taka for Gegenpressing any time soon.”
