Most bookmakers have closed their markets on Alexandre Lacazette joining Arsenal with a deal inching ever closer to completion.
The Gunners are set to pay £44million – around €50million – a club record fee to land the 26-year-old striker from French club Lyon.
He had been set to join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid this summer until their transfer ban was upheld, and they have since turned to their former striker Diego Costa – which opened up the path for Arsenal to land Lacazette.
Now Lacazette is due for his medial in London later this week and should be confirmed as an Arsenal player before the weekend.
Lacazette will become their second signing of the summer following the capture of Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer.
Monaco duo Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar also remain high on boss Arsene Wenger’s wanted list, although the futures of a number of the squad including Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – who are all out of contract next summer – remain unclear.
