Leicester axe for Shakespeare

Leicester City have sacked manager Craig Shakespeare just four months after he was handed the job on a permanent basis.

Shakespeare took over from Claudio Ranieri – who guided the club to their astonishing Premier League title win the year before – in February, and guided them to safety.

He was rewarded with a three-year deal in the summer, but the board have decided another change is needed with the club saw third from bottom of the Premier League and within a win in their last six league games.

They have lost four games this season in the league, but those defeats have come against Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Now Leicester are looking for a third manager in eight months, with former Leicester striker Roberto Mancini and ex-England boss Sam Allardyce amongst the favourites.

Spokesman Paddy Power said: “It was always likely to end in tragedy for Craig Shakespeare at Leicester City. Alas, poor Shakey!

“The 53-year-old has reportedly been dismissed just four months after taking permanent charge, which has presumably left him thoroughly Foxed off.

“Although, given the way his predecessor, Claudio Ranieri was sacked, I dare say he’s making much ado about nothing.”
