Leicester City’s owners are understood to be looking for a ‘big name’ to lead the club after they axed Craig Shakespeare.

The club’s chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha is looking for his third new boss this year, after firstly axing Claudio Ranieri, and now Shakespeare.

A host of names are being linked, but I understand one name who Leicester did want – was Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers.

However, Rodgers – whose stock is on the rise – has made it clear he would not be interested in the King Power role – believing if, and when, he returns to England it would be for a ‘big’ job.

Former Borussia Dortmund chief Thomas Tuchel has been ruled, as has former England chief Sam Allardyce – who left Crystal Palace at the end of last season, claiming he has no interest in returning to club management.

One time Leicester striker Roberto Mancini – who has turned down the role previously – is again understood to be in the reckoning.

One man attracting a lot of intention in the betting markets is Burnley’s Sean Dyche, and BetFred have brought him into 4/1.

“The odds on the no nonsense Burnley boss have been slashed from 8/1 after early front runner Big Sam Allardyce indicated he’s more likely to join up with Uncle Sam as the American national team boss,” said BetFred spokesman Pete Spencer.

“The Foxes’ post unexpectedly became available after the shock axing of Craig Shakespeare – four months after being given the role on a permanent basis.

“Ex England boss Allardyce is 11/2 at Betfred to be appointed by Leicester whose form has dipped dramatically, leaving the Foxes in the bottom three having gone six league matches without a win, culminating in a 1-1 draw with WBA at the King Power.

“For those football romantics, we are 33/1 that Ranieri will return Two other former Leicester favourites, Martin O’Neill (20/1) and Neil Lennon (25/1) are both in the running, although it’s debatable whether they’ll leave their current posts at Republic of Ireland and Hibernian respectively.”
