Lewis Hamilton backed for more success

On the back of his fourth world title success, Lewis Hamilton is already being backed to win Formula One Drivers’ Championship for a fifth time next year.

Hamilton claimed the title in Mexico, making him Britain’s most successful F1 driver of all time but the 32-year-old himself insists he is already looking to a fifth which would put him level with the Argentine legend Juan Manuel Fangio and within two of German legend Michael Schumacher.

“Four is a great number, but I want number five now,” Hamilton said.

Bookmakers now believe that Hamilton has every chance of taking the title next season and is already considered 15/8 favourite, whilst he is 8/1 to break Schumacher’s record of seven titles.

“Lewis Hamilton is now the most successful British Formula One driver of all time and if he chooses to continue driving for another four or five years, Michael Schumacher’s record could well be within reach,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.

He is also 8/1 to win the Sports Personality of the Year and 2/1 to land a knighthood in the New Year’s honours list.
