Limini considered for Champion Hurdle switch

Bookmakers are taking big money on Limini for the Champion Hurdle and trainer Willie Mullions has confirmed that they are considering switching her targets at the Cheltenham Festival.

After a brilliant performance in the Quevega Mares Hurdle at Punchestown on Wednesday, Limini was cut to 2/1 for the  Mares’ Hurdle at the Festival.

However, Mullins has revealed he will discussing with owner Rich Ricci whether to supplement the six-year-old for the Champion Hurdle instead.

“I haven’t really discussed it with the owner but it (the Champion Hurdle) is certainly something that has to be thought about,” he told The Irish Independent.

“She has lots of pace in the way that she works. Two miles or two and a half miles really makes no difference.

“I was delighted with how Wednesday worked out.”

Ladbrokes confirmed that they had seen a lot of interest in Limini and their spokesperson Hayley O’Connor said: “We were inundated by customers wanting to back Limini for the Champion Hurdle, so we’ve put her in the betting.

“Those punters are obviously predicting she’ll come on from her opening run of the season and team Mullins will find the temptation of the big one too much.”
