Liverpool boost top-four hopes with Arsenal win

Liverpool gave their top-four hopes a huge boost with a 3-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield.

The Reds bounced back from their hammering at Leicester City in brilliant style, with what proved a surprisingly comfortable win over Arsene Wenger’s men.

The talking point before the game and likely to be thereafter – was Wenger’s decision to drop leading scorer Alexis Sanchez to the bench.

No doubt that would have given Liverpool a boost and they reacted well, taking the lead just nine minutes when Roberto Firmino converted from close range from a Sadio Mane cross.

The Ivorian then doubled Liverpool’s lead on 40-minutes, with Firmino returning the favour with the assist.

At the break, Sanchez was introduced and Arsenal battled their way back into the game with Danny Welbeck slotting home, and no surprise that the Chilean was the architect.

That set up a frantic finish with both teams have chances, but it was Liverpool who put the match to bed in the final minute with Gino Wijnaldum on target.

Liverpool are now back to odds on to finish in the top-four, back ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United in the top-four betting.
